Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall will be organising a series of activities to commemorate Dr Sun¡¯s death 77 years ago on March 12.
From March 10 ¨C 17, members of the public may view an exhibition of ¡°Elegiac Couplets in Memory of Dr Sun Yat Sen¡± at the hall, Passage through the Eras, at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. On display will be elegiac couplets written by prominent statesmen and academic of that era, such as Mao Zedong, Chiang Kai Shek and Lim Boon Keng.
On March 12, the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall will be conducting a forum ¡°Appraising the Relevance of Dr Sun Yat Sen¡¯s Spirit in the 21st Century¡± at the Nanyang Gallery. Invited panelists include Mr Zhang Jiuhuan (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the PRC), Prof. Wang Gungwu (Director of East Asian Institute), as well as Mr Xiao Runjun, (Director of Museum of Dr Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall in Cuiheng Village) and Mdm Han Zesheng (President of Zhongshan Overseas Friendship Association).
Renowned local calligrapher Khoo Seow Hwa will conduct a talk on ¡°Appreciation of Elegiac Couplets¡± on March 16. He will address the contents of the messages, as well as the origins and use of such expressions.
